Inspection sheets
Six sheets,
ready on day one.
HGV inspection and service sheets for the commercial-vehicle workshop. Pre-CVRT and pre-NCT checks taken item for item from the RSA manuals. The traffic-light health check and a service sheet for cars and vans. Every workshop gets all six; each vehicle only ever sees the sheets for its type.

The sheets
| Code | Sheet | Vehicles | Items | Answers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VIR | HGV Vehicle Inspection The periodic inspection a heavy goods operator needs on file, extracted from the sheet DGC Motors in Co. Monaghan had used for years. Brakes, steering, suspension, wheels, lamps, tachograph, body and coupling. | Trucks, trailers, vans | 67 | Pass / fail |
| SIR | Service Inspection The service sheet: what was changed, what was topped up, what was checked and passed. Three answer shapes on one sheet, because an oil change and a brake check are not the same kind of finding. | Trucks, trailers, vans | 68 | Changed / topped up / pass-fail |
| LCV | Pre-CVRT Check (Light Commercial) Item for item from the RSA's Light Commercial Vehicle tester's manual, so what the workshop checks is what the test centre will. Every row carries the manual reference. | Vans up to 3.5 t | 68 | Pass / fail |
| NCT | Pre-NCT Check Item for item from the RSA's NCT manual for M1 cars, with the manual's item number on every row. The check to sell three weeks before the customer's test date. | Cars | 66 | Pass / fail |
| VHC | Vehicle Health Check The trade's traffic-light sheet. Amber is always an advisory — attention soon — and red takes the item's own severity, so a customer sees two different findings on the same brake pad rather than one alarming word. | Cars, vans | 46 | Green / amber / red |
| SVC | Car & Van Service The service inspection's three answer shapes, on a car-sized sheet. | Cars, vans | 33 | Changed / topped up / pass-fail |
On the trolley
Sixty-point targets. No signal needed.
Pass and fail are 60-point targets, sized for nitrile gloves at arm’s length on a trolley-mounted iPad. Every status pairs a colour with a mark and a word, so a colour-blind mechanic in full sun reads the same sheet. The whole thing runs on the device; the dead corner of the yard is not a problem.
A fail becomes a defect on the vehicle, with the photograph and the note. The sheet is signed on the screen and rendered as a PDF report.

Compliance dates
The pre-test check, sold three weeks early.
Every vehicle carries its CVRT or NCT date, its tachograph calibration and its service interval — typed in off the disc when it’s in, shown as “not on record” until then. A date turns amber three weeks out and red once it has passed, and the compliance list puts the whole fleet in that order — soonest first. That is the pre-test check, offered before the customer books the test.
Severity
One severity per item. Amber overrides it.
The author of a sheet sets one severity per item. On the traffic-light sheet an amber answer is always an advisory and a red one takes the item’s own — so the same brake pad can be “attention soon” on one visit and a failure on the next, and the defect raised says which.

Fair questions
- Can a workshop certify a CVRT or an NCT with Workbay?
- No — only a test centre can. A CVRT or NCT happens between the customer and the test centre. What a workshop sells is the pre-test check: the same items, checked and rectified before the vehicle goes for its test. Workbay's pre-CVRT and pre-NCT sheets are that check, and no authorisation is needed to offer one.
- Does completing a pre-test check update the vehicle's CVRT or NCT date?
- No, deliberately. A passed pre-check is not a test. The compliance date is typed in off the disc when the vehicle is in, and only that changes it — so a reminder never falls silent because the workshop did the pre-check.
- Do the sheets work without signal?
- Yes. The whole sheet is on the device. Answers, notes and photographs queue and sync when signal returns; a force-quit loses nothing and duplicates nothing.
- Can I edit the sheets or add my own?
- Not yet from the app. The six sheets are maintained by Workbay and updated as the RSA manuals change. If your workshop needs a sheet of its own, email hello@workbay.ie — it is the kind of request that decides what gets built next.
- What does the customer get?
- A PDF inspection report with the outcome, every finding, the photographs and the signature, attached to the job report and the invoice. Findings become defects on the vehicle, so the next visit starts from what was found last time.
The sheets come with every plan — see pricing.
Next step
Run a sheet on your own truck.
14 days is long enough to take a vehicle from booking-in to invoice and judge it on that. No card. Nothing charged unless you add one.
